FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the method used to transfer files from a PC to a Webserver.  On occassion, you may need to transfer a bulk set of files or images to your webserver, and the procedure for doing so varies by the application (and version) you use.  There are specific applications, such as WSFTP or CuteFTP or FETCH (mac) that are designed to only perform FTP functions, but you can also use a browser to accomplish an FTP transfer of files.

Here is the basic info you'll need to know:

In your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) enter this FTP Address= ftp.yourdomain.com  (The following screen will appear, or click "Login As" from the File Menu of the Browser.)

Login= The User Name for your MyWebNControl hosting account truncated to eight characters (ie. mywebnco)

Password= The password assigned to your MyWebNControl hosting account

After successful login, you will see a screen similar to below, with the main file folders of your website displayed.  Double click on the file folder named "yourdomain.com" (inserting your actual domain name for "yourdomain" to open the file director of your site.

You will then see a file directory similar to below, showing the specific folders and files of your website.  You can navigate these folders much as you would any folder or file on your desktop, and you can simply drag and drop files & folders to and from your desktop and they will automatically upload and download.

You can also create folders and subfolders easily.  Right click in an empty area (between folders for instance) and select "New Folder".  Name the folder, (ie. pdfs, docs, pics) and then you can begin uploading files to that folder.  To access the files in that folder, for display on your website, simply include the folder name in the path of the link you create to that file.  (ie. http://www.yourdomain.com/pdfs/Report.pdf).  Linking to PDFs or Docs (Word, etc.) can be extremely useful for your website visitors, and it's easy to do.  Here is a "link" to the help file describing the link tool in more depth.  Links to PDFs, Docs, or other files is managed in much the same way as links to other websites or pages within your website, just be sure to include the file folder in your path.

FTP is an advanced programming function.  Please contact help@mywebncontrol.com for assistance with your specific website and FTP program.
